WEBSITE Nutrition Counseling

Purpose:

To promote the increased use of locally grown fresh fruits and vegetables and to support local farmers.

Eligibility:

  • Age 60 or older
  • Affirm low-income status based on 185% of the federal poverty guidelines.
  • Currently receiving or eligible to receive one or more of the following benefits:
    • Food Stamps
    • Public Assistance
    • Section 8 Housing Subsidy
    • SSI

Guidelines:

  • Booklets are issued between July and September each year.
  • Coupons can be used between July thru November 30th depending upon how long the area farmers markets stay open.
  • Coupon booklets are issued on a FIRST COME FIRST SERVE basis.
  • Booklets are issued with five (5) $5.00 coupons for a total of $25.00 per booklet.
  • Must pick up coupon booklets in person.
  • Must sign statement of eligibility.
  • One (1) booklet per senior.
  • A listing of participating area markets is provided with coupon booklets.

Use:

  • To be used for personal benefit to improve nutrition through consumption of fresh fruits and vegetables.
  • Checks can only be used at authorized multiple vendor farmers markets participating in the program and not at grocery stores or roadside stands.
  • May only be used to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables and cannot be used to purchase cider, jams, honey or baked goods.
  • Must use full $5.00 coupon. No change will be given.
